First Announcement

An international workshop on Emergent Phenomena in Quantum Hall Systems (EPQHS) will be held at the Taos convention center in Taos, New Mexico, USA,  July 7-9, 2005.  These dates are immediately prior to the Electronic Properties of Two-Dimensional Electron Systems conference (EP2DS-16) being held in nearby Albuquerque.

The aim of the meeting is to bring together leading scientists and young researchers working on emergent collective phenomena in low-dimensional electronic systems at high magnetic fields. We would like to have an informal and lively forum for discussions on the most intriguing and innovative aspects in quantum Hall and related systems. The focus will be on fundamental concepts and on exploring new directions of research.

The workshop, organized by Jim Eisenstein, Sankar Das Sarma, Vittorio Pellegrini and Aron Pinczuk, will consist of invited lectures and contributed poster sessions. The number of oral presentations will be kept relatively small to ensure adequate time for discussion.

A preliminary list of confirmed invited speakers includes:

Nigel Cooper
Eugene Demler
Jainendra Jain
Klaus von Klitzing
Moty Heiblum
Allan MacDonald
Ady Stern
Amir Yacoby
Daijiro Yoshioka

We believe this is a timely meeting that will offer a forum for distinguished colleagues and young researchers to have in-depth discussions and evaluations of topics that are at the current frontiers of condensed-matter science. Visit the meeting website for up-to-date information on the workshop.

Important dates:

Deadline for abstract submission is April, 15th
