Bugs

  1. If the text input boxes and labels appear misaligned, increase the size of the applet window.
  2. If the animation speed is too fast for the speed of the computer, the response to mouse or keyboard actions may be poor, or at worst the computer may freeze. This seems to be very system dependent - PCs running Windows 95 benefit from a fast speed, SUNs that I have tried freeze if the speed is larger than about 100. Beware of making the animation speed too fast.
  3. After loading, the screen should show a box outline on the left hand side. Sometimes using Netscape 2.0 under Windows95 the applet fails to load correctly and no box appears. In this case the applet will not run. Close the window and restart the applet.
  4. The Netscape implementation of Java under Windows 95 up to version 3.0b4 results in very long load times. The Microsoft Internet Explorer beta Java implementation and the Netscape 3.0b5 Java with JIT compiling give much faster loads, and also seem to get rid of the first bug.
  5. A dynamic iteration may not be stopped by minimizing the window or by leaving the initial page. This seems to depend on the particular implementation of Java, e.g. works under Solaris, not under Windows95.
  6. The pop-up window is not closed on leaving the first page - a "feature" so that the other pages can be read with the window available. (Use frames instead?)
